International Yoga Day 2024



On June 21, 2024, people all throughout the world will commemorate the tenth International Yoga Day. The purpose of the day is to increase public knowledge of the many psychological, spiritual, and physical advantages of yoga.

 

The combination of the human body and mind is symbolized by the Sanskrit term "yoga," which means "to join or to unite." It is a comprehensive workout that is essential for developing resilience and strength.

Even though yoga has its roots in ancient India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested celebrating the International Day of Yoga in September 2014 at his speech to the UN General Assembly (UNGA).

While addressing the 69th session of the UNGA, the prime minister had said, “Yoga is an invaluable gift from our ancient tradition. Yoga embodies unity of mind and body, thought and action ... a holistic approach [that] is valuable to our health and our well-being. Yoga is not just about exercise; it is a way to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature."

Millions of people have embraced yoga throughout the years as a way to improve their general health and mental wellbeing. Yoga incorporates breathing techniques, meditation, and other physical activities. It enhances flexibility, strength, balance, and endurance in addition to lowering tension, anxiety, and despair.

In Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on the banks of Dal Lake, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will mark the International Day of Yoga on June 21. It is anticipated that between 3,000 and 4,000 people would attend the event, which is set to take place at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), which is located next to the gorgeous Boulevard road.

It is expected that in addition to party workers, students, police officers, and sports celebrities will attend the event. There will be multiple layers of security in place when the Prime Minister will arrive in Srinagar on Thursday night, according to the officials.

Recognizing its universal appeal, on 11 December 2014, the United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga by resolution 69/131. The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga.

The theme for this year is 'Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam'. "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” or "One Earth · One Family · One Future”.

Explanation: The full form of YOGA is “Y our Objectives Guidelines and Assessment”. Yoga is a branch of religious and spiritual traditions, which are derived from the ancient Indian practice of Hinduism.
